Make it two in a row for the Kerry Park Islanders to close out their November schedule.

The Isles had lost four straight, the most recent loss coming at the hands of Campbell River when the Storm beat the Isles 6-1 on Nov. 25. In that game, Kerry Park’s Kellan Bates scored 14:46 into the first period from Zachary Ellis-Winters and Colby Robinson but that was all the offence the Mill Bay men could muster.

Logan Elzinga saved 32 of 38 while in net for the Isles.

Things began to turn around after that though, under the tutelage of new head coach Brian Passmore.

“It’s been a good start,” he said. “A lot of games in the first week and we haven’t had much practice time.”

Passmore said they’ve been spending time getting their competitive spirits up and enjoying going to the rink every day.

“It’s definitely a different level of where they’re at in their hockey careers,” Passmore noted. “They’re picking things up quickly and they want to get to the highest level possible. It’s a good group of kids and they’re really paying attention and working hard.”

On Nov. 26, in front of a home crowd, Kerry Park doubled up on the Westshore Wolves, winning 2-1.

Jack Strom and Carson Brown scored goals for the Islanders in the second and third periods respectively while Bryce Burnett, Lukas Tokic and Bates all earned assists.

Eric Young’s 34 stops on 35 goals in net earned him the win.

And then on Monday, Nov. 28, the Isles bested Saanich 3-2 in a shootout on home ice to make it back-to-back victories.

What’s more, they had to come back to do it.

Down two after two periods, Eric Stinson potted his fourth and fifth goals of the season to tie it up in the third.

The first goal came short-handed at 4:42 of the third period from Aleko Sdrakas and Burnett and the second came at 19:38

from Sdrakas and Bates.

Stinson and Bates went on to score in the shootout while Young shut the door in net to secure the victory.
