Two Cowichan Valley schools were recognized for their participation in the Times Colonist 10K road race at the end of April.

Shawnigan Lake School was the fastest school team in the race, posting a team time of 41 minutes and 33 seconds based on the first five runners across the finish line. Angus Brown led the way with a time of 34:55, by far the best time of any school-affiliated athlete.

École Mount Prevost Elementary received the School Team Spirit Award. Prevost fielded the largest school team at the event, with 47 runners, nine more than the second largest team, École Cobble Hill. Prevost also had the seventh-fastest time for a school team, and the second-best result for a school from the Valley, with a team time of 47:39, led by Evan Mayer at 46:31.

Other Valley schools that entered the race included Frances Kelsey, George Bonner, Drinkwater, Cowichan Secondary, Duncan Christian and Bench, as well as an SD79 administration team.
