Some of Canada’s best young squash players — including a few from the host school — will be in action this weekend at the 2017 Shawnigan Junior Open, a rare opportunity for local fans to see world-class squash in the Cowichan Valley.

The tournament that runs this Friday to Sunday will feature top-ranked players from inside and outside Canada.

The boys under-19 division will be headlined by Shawnigan’s own Michael Mehl and Ryan Picken as they renew the rivalry that led to epic battles in last year’s Shawnigan Open and at the Canadian Under-19 Championship final. On the girls side, defending national U15 champion Lucia Bicknell will move up a division, while top-ranked Gigi Yeung of Macau will compete in North America for the first time.
