Steelheads and Red Arrow open with losses

Cowichan Masters B and Div. 3A teams drop first games

The Cowichan Steelheads and Cowichan Red Arrow opened their respective Vancouver Island Soccer League seasons with losses last weekend.

The masters C Steelheads took a 3-1 loss at home against the Fernwood Dragons on Saturday, getting their lone goal from Ali Tabrizi, while Joel Leech earned game MVP honours.

Red Arrow lost 3-2 on the road against Prospect Lake last Sunday to kick off the Div. 3A season. Game MVP Jonas Golf-Myers and Carl Bjarnason scored for Cowichan.

The Steelheads will head out on the road this weekend, visiting the CB Red Barn Bobcats on Friday, while Red Arrow will host the Juan de Fuca Pilgrims at the Sherman Road turf on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Cowichan’s U21 men’s soccer team will make its season debut this weekend, taking to the Sherman Road turf against Vic West at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.
