The peewee female Cowichan Thunder just missed out on winning the Island banner after falling 5-3 to the Peninsula Warriors at Kerry Park Arena on Tuesday evening.

Cowichan matched Peninsula goal-for-goal in the second and third periods, but the Warriors’ two goals in the first ended up making the difference.

After Peninsula scored twice in the first, Elora Waardenburg got Cowichan on the board in the second, only to see the Warriors renew their two-goal lead before the period was over. Both teams scored twice in the third, with Bria Grounds and Camryn Waldron getting the Thunder’s goals.

The Thunder had already secured a berth in the provincial championships and are playing for the B.C. title in Port Coquitlam this weekend.
