The Cowichan Outlaws could use more Samanthas.
Both players on the Div. 2 women’s soccer team who sport that name scored goals as Cowichan hosted Nanaimo at Williams Turf last weekend, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Outlaws lost 5-2.
Nanaimo scored early on, but right back Samantha Walker answered back with a long ball into the top of the net, helping her earn the hard hat as Cowichan’s Woman of the Match. Nanaimo scored again, but Samantha McLean, a call-up from Cowichan’s U18 Premier League team, finished off a good independent effort with a goal of her own.
Nanaimo, who sit second in the Div. 2 standings, were far from finished, however, going ahead with one late goal, followed by a successful penalty kick, then another goal when Cowichan made a last-ditch push.
Joining McLean as call-ups from the U18 team were Keira Martin and goalkeeper MacKenna Posey.
“It was a fun game,” Cowichan coach Neall Rowlings said.
The Outlaws will visit third-place Castaways FC at PISE this Saturday.
