As a way to commemorate the 90th year of the Auxiliary to Cowichan District Hospital, we decided earlier this year to offer support of over $90,000 toward special equipment purchases.
Auxiliary officers went to the Electrodiagnostics Department at the hospital recently to understand what our funding has provided.
We learned that the new ECG carts, replacing equipment that is 11 or 12 years old, have features that staff are pleased with — including touch screen operation, height adjustability, enhanced hook-up advisor to assist with quality testing, sturdier patient cables, and WiFi capabilities for transmitting readings to patient files. These new ECG carts will still be viable when the move to the new hospital takes place, so our funding has long-term usefulness.
Authorized but still outstanding is an order for medication carts that comprise almost half of the above-noted $90,000.
This special 90th anniversary donation is in addition to other purchases we have authorized this year, so if everything that’s ordered arrives before year-end, the Auxiliary will have provided more than $124,000 for equipment and $7,000 in supplies and services at CDH in 2022. The Auxiliary also provides modest ongoing and recently increased support for services at Cairnsmore Place and a new annual payment for ongoing comfort activities at Cowichan Hospice House.
We hope that you think these actions supporting healthcare in Cowichan are significant and important, and that we inspire you to join with us so that our support can continue.
