Flooding from a severe storm the night before couldn’t stop the Bigleaf Maple Syrup Festival from going ahead Feb. 1 and 2 at the BC Forest Discovery Centre in Duncan.
Crowds descended on the centre to buy bigleaf maple syrup and other maple-related products and baking, try the maple tea, take in a tree tapping demonstration, ride the train and more.
Some vendors and presenters were late, or had to cancel, as flooding on the Trans-Canada Highway completely closed the road between Crofton and Nanaimo, where some were travelling from.
But that didn’t dampen the spirts of those who were there and when the road reopened in the late morning people began to arrive in earnest.
