Carnival to benefit Community Learning Centre

The Community Learning Centre will be hosting a Carnival for Kids fundraiser on April 2

The Community Learning Centre will be hosting a Carnival for Kids fundraiser on April 2 at the Cobble Hill Hall at 2 p.m. to raise funds to buy educational materials and host community speakers at the Community Learning Centre.

The CLC provides tutoring to all school age students, as well as homeschool support and educational programs.

CLC founder Zoë Clement started the Learning Center after noticing a need for academic support in the homeschooling community.

“Homeschooling is growing in popularity for a variety of reasons,” she said. “After talking with some parents I thought, how exciting would it be if we created a place where students could come and borrow science kits, learn how to use microscopes, or get together with other kids to do themed projects?”

While programs for art, sports and music for home learners are available in the Cowichan Valley, there was nothing that honed in on academics and the unique nature of individualized learning resources.

“This fundraiser will help fund some of our new programs, but is also let parents interested in homeschooling connect with the homeschooling community,” said Clement.

“Starting in April we are excited to offer an open classroom that brings together homeschooling parents to share information and resources, and use the learning materials, books and games at the Learning Centre to support their own projects.

The Carnival-themed fundraiser features a silent auction, raffle items, games built by students, music and more.

The Community Learning Centre offers tutoring, after-school educational workshops, and summer camps, as well as part-time programs, clubs and support for homeschoolers.

It is located at #58 Valleyview Center, 1400 Cowichan Bay Road, Cobble Hill.
