The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is up and running again in the Cowichan Valley

The campaign started on Nov. 25 this year, with five kettles set up so far in a number of storefronts in the area with volunteers taking turns to ring the bells and encourage people to give to help the Salvation Army carry on with their local programs that help people in need.

Bob Day, the 2022 kettle coordinator, said more than $15,000 has been raised so far, and the goal this year is to raise $100,000 before the campaign wraps up on Christmas Eve at 3 p.m.

“I feel so very blessed to have this role and be able to meet so many amazing new friends at the kettles, and I look forward to meeting many more throughout the campaign,” Day said.

“The stories I hear at the kettles are so heartwarming from volunteers and those making donations. This can only be a testament to not only the Salvation Army, but the amazing generosity of the entire Cowichan Valley.”

Day said the campaign plans to add two more kettles to this year’s campaign in the coming days and, as always, there’s a need for volunteers to fill the two-hour shifts at the kettles.

“People have been great and we’re not having much trouble filling the shifts, but there are currently still shifts that need to be filled,” he said.
