Join the Cowichan Valley Naturalists on Nov. 21 for some En-lichen-ment.
An amazing diversity of life, and ecologies, exist here in small spaces; often carrying out their purposes for decades without our notice. Lichen are cryptic, intricately beautiful, and are far more complex than we once knew.
Join the group for an online talk with naturalist Juliet Pendray about lichen of our area, on their interesting partnerships and dynamics, and identification basics to help us get to know them better.
The talk starts at 7:30 p.m., with time for discussion at the end; please bring your questions and interests!
Optional to bring:
• a (windfallen) lichen or two (it can support your learning to have a lichen-in-hand when we discuss their parts).
• a magnifier or handlens if you have one (to better see tiny lichen parts).
The talk is via Zoom. Email cvns@naturecowichan.net for the link.

Megan Branch is hosting a Duncan death café on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
Branch is a local hospice nurse and death doula.
“A death café is a place to drink tea, eat cake, and talk about death and dying,” Branch said. “It is a safe, judgment-free space that encourages the sharing of opinions, stories, and experiences. It is a discussion group, not a grief or support group and I am excited to bring one to our community. I hope it to be the first of many!”
The event is scheduled fro 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Unit 704-5301 Chaster Rd, Duncan.
