• Old Time Hockey rep Jim Dias presents a cheque for $3,605 to Sheldon Cleaves,  of the ALS board. The money is the total sum raised during the 15th annual Cowichan Valley Old Hustlers Mini Tournament that was held in November 2016.

That fun tourney involved more than 60 oldtimer hockey players. In the past 10 years the funds raised from this tournament have been remitted directly to the BC ALS Society to support research.

Over those 10 years, oldtimers hockey in the Cowichan Valley has contributed an estimated $35,000 to $40,000, “a great accomplishment I believe,” said Dias.

The event is particularly special because “we do this fund raising in memory of Joe Dougherty and Rick Wilkinson, who both played goal at one time or another with our club, and who both died from this disease.”
