Sunday, Sept. 11 was the perfect day to get out and walk the dog.

And raise money for the Cowichan branch of the BC SPCA.

The group held its annual Paws for a Cause fundraiser at McAdam Park, offering a fun event for both pooches and their owners with music, vendors and a walk through the woods in the late summer sunshine.

SPCA manager Sandi Trent was ecstatic at the result.

“What a day! Over $14,500 raised for Cowichan critters. Truly humbled by all who volunteered, donated and participated,” she posted on Facebook Monday.

The money will go towards animals in care that require medical treatment, she said, adding that the SPCA already has a designated fund for a spay and neuter program.
