It was a terrific turnout for the annual Terry Fox Run in Duncan which celebrated its second year at Evans Park on Sept. 15 as 195 people of all ages and abilities participated, several sporting Terry Fox shirts, keeping his dream alive as we still fight for a cure for cancer.
A new addition this year was the Terry Fox legacy board which gave attendees the chance to sign their name, write something more meaningful, as well as pose for a photo op.
The Cowichan Valley Dragon Divas donned pink with their paddles raised in an arch as walkers and runners started off on course for a good cause. Members of CEEVACS running club, and students from Queen's Margaret's School donated their time to assist with marshalling. All in all there were a total of 40 volunteers to ensure the event went off without a hitch, crushing its goal of $9,000 as it raised just over $10,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
"I was very happy with the event this year," said organizer Mark Swannell. "There was an excellent atmosphere and the weather certainly helped. The kids enjoyed the face paints and Terry Fox tattoos, and the refreshments at the end of the run were well received. The course had been modified from last year and got good feedback. In all, it was a great success."
