Sandy McPherson is one of those volunteers helping to raise funds for the Peace Pole in Duncan. The project, which has been spearheaded by longtime Duncan resident Joan Gillatt has now moved forward to the place where a design has come forward. Now, it’s simply time to raise money to get the project finished. (Lexi Bainas/Citizen)

• Mason Lafrance, a Golf Shop Team Member at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club passed his player ability test to become a member of the Professional Golfers Association of Canada.

Lafrance has worked with Arbutus Ridge since 2013, and before that he was a junior member at the club.

“Mason has worked tirelessly at his game to prepare for this tournament and as a result of passing the player ability test, can now pursue his career choice of being a golf professional,” said Richard Ingle. “With this accreditation he will be now able to take the appropriate courses to teach the game of golf and help it grow in the Cowichan Valley.”

“He is a super kid that we are very proud of and will be an inspiration to other young golfers in the area that would like to be more involved in the industry.

• The Herons Wood community association has received permission to build a demonstration cob bench with green roof on municipal lands by the Food Forest along the Herons Wood walking path, and they’re looking for volunteers who want to learn about cobbing.

When the armature is complete there will be cobbing workshops to local school children who can walk to the site. Volunteers should call or text Petronella van Oyen at 250-732-7649.
