Duncan Christian School on Beech Avenue in Duncan celebrated a much-needed expansion with the opening of their new portable building at the end of October.
Under a beautiful blue sky around 200 members of the school community – students, parents, family members, teachers and staff – gathered to attend the official ribbon cutting for the new building at DCS.
“The Pod”, as it is called fondly, will be the home of three new classrooms, a staff room, washrooms and a resource room. Due to another year of growing numbers, DCS had to expand and was grateful to take over a former building of the Cowichan Tribes School. The portable unit was recycled and installed last summer under enormous time pressure, as it had to be ready for the start of the new school year.
“We are thankful to our business partners from Knightway Modular Transportation & Installation for their dedication and hard work towards the remodel and installation of the new portable building at Duncan Christian School. The entire team did a fantastic job making certain three new classrooms, staff room, washrooms and resource room were ready for teachers and students at the start of the school year. Thank you and may God bless you!” Principal Peter Terpstra thanked Colin Mullet and Jared Knippsheld from Knightway who also attended the celebration.
“We are blessed with a wonderful school community and thanks to our families, donors, and sponsors we are able to provide a loving and caring environment for the children at our school. We are a school in the Valley for the Valley and this fantastic building will allow us to provide more appropriate classrooms for our growing school community,” said Principal Peter Terpstra, before cutting the ribbon together with Colin Mullet and board member Reed Gary.
All the guests were invited to coffee and cake and could explore the new building by strolling through the classrooms.
