Elder College is back for 2023 under a brand new name: Lifelong Learners.

The group says the name and logo change has come about because it wanted to better represent the members of its changing community.

“Interest in program opportunities is fast being rekindled among those 50 or better, and the Cowichan Community Centre and the Lifelong Learners advisory committee recognized that it was the right time for change as a brighter future approaches. People’s outlook on learning, personal growth and enjoying our community has turned in a good direction and the new name reflects that,” said Lori King, Lifelong Learners Advisory Committee member.

On Dec. 1 online and Dec. 8 in print, the new CVRD Active Living Guide for Winter/Spring 2023 launched the new look.

Built on a foundation of volunteer presenters, a dedicated advisory committee and with the support of the Cowichan Community Centre’s staff and facility, Elder College has provided quality, affordable programs in a friendly and welcoming environment for more than 20 years. The small annual membership fee opens the door to fun, informative offerings for the 50-plus community and includes classes from the arts to yoga.

“We are constantly and pleasantly surprised at the willingness of our friends and neighbours to become Lifelong Learners presenters. They bring incredible opportunities for us to step outside our doors and into this very unique ‘classroom’, and as volunteers, they genuinely want to see others excited to learn,” said Betsy Burr, Lifelong Learners Advisory Committee member.

Programs for 2023 are now available for registration at the Cowichan Community Centre in person at 2687 James St., by phone at 250-748-7529 and online at www.cvrd.bc.ca
