“We got a ton of food last night, three trucks full,” said a happy Steve Johnson of the Lake Cowichan Fire Department.

The legendary generosity of the people of the Cowichan Lake area was supplemented by donations from other areas, too, he said.

“We even got food from the people at the Duncan Courthouse; of course, they give some of what they collected to other groups, but they drove all the way out here with some for us.”

The firefighters were out Friday night, Dec. 13 in front of Country Grocer collecting food and toys, and again Saturday morning in the same place, cooking breakfast for the community and collecting even more items for the annual hamper drive.
