Youbou’s annual end-of-October tradition — the Haunted House at Youbou Community Hall — is back in action on Halloween night.
The fun begins when the doors at the hall open at 5:30 p.m.
“Come and fill the neighbourhood with fright on Halloween night!” said organizers. “Tour our haunted castle, visit our ghoul-fish pond and join us for a costume contest for all ages, hot dogs and fireworks.”
The fireworks will be set off from the Yount School field at 7:30 p.m.
This year the CVRD would like to thank partners, the Youbou Community Association, Youbou Fire Department and the owners of the former Yount School property.

For those a little less inclined to enjoy being spooked, special Halloween themed skates at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena are also on tap. The first is Saturday, Oct. 29 from 12 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. Drop-in fees apply.
The next is a free skate on Halloween Day, Monday, Oct. 31 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.

For those who just can’t wait to get started, Saturday, Oct. 29 Lake Cowichan Treasure Hunters is hosting a Halloween event with a little help from their friends at Remax, the Tube Shack and the Lake Mercantile.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at Saywell Park and will include pumpkin carving, a costume competition and free pizza, juice boxes and candy bags brought to you by Little Town Pizza.

For those who’d prefer to be out on the water, a Witches Paddle is aimed at getting some exercise and having a good time the day before the Big Day.
The event kicks off from Arbutus Park on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 9 a.m.
“Paddles will be our broomsticks as we set forth from the beach and paddle around the protected bay and beyond,” said organizers. “In addition to witches hats, please wear your lifejacket.”
