The winner of the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce’s first annual Christmas Light Up Tour and Contest has been chosen. The Giesbrechts' property at 13565 Wagon Wheel Dr. was voted the most beautifully decorated home.
While the Giesbrechts are winners of the inaugural award, this is certainly not their first year creating their stellar display. Kelly Giesbrecht and his wife have been decorating their property for more than 12 years, with their now 11-year-old son joining the decorating team.
The Giesbrechts' lighting extravaganza is no small undertaking. It takes the family a month to set up their display. They worked every weekend and donned headlamps to continue their work during dark weekday evenings.
Kelly Giesbrecht accepted the prize on behalf of his family, which included a $100 gift card from Ladysmith Home Hardware & Building Centre and a Magical Christmas Light-Up 2024 Ornament. And, of course, bragging rights for the year. But it’s not about the win or the prize for the family.
“It’s about seeing and hearing from the many people who get great pleasure out of seeing our lights,” Giesbrecht said. “From children’s smiles to teenagers strolling through on their first date, or the smile we brought to a 101-year-old lady who was provided a tour.”
The family is grateful to the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors for organizing the contest. They would also like to extend their thanks to their neighbours who put up with the extra traffic and noise on their usually quiet street.
