It’s time to light up Lake Cowichan for the Christmas season. Join the fun Sunday starting at 4 p.m. (Gazette file)

Lake Cowichan kicks off Christmas on Sunday, Nov. 26

With a parade, an outdoor Christmas market, chats with Santa and free refreshments: it’s great.

Get ready for the holiday season with Lake Cowichan light up on Sunday, Nov. 26.

It all starts with the Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce and Country Grocer, followed by the town lighting of the Big Tree at Saywell Park.

Yes, those are big letters because it’s a big tree.

At 3 p.m., the marshalling starts for the parade, which gets going at 4 p.m.

Later, at 5:30 p.m. it will be time to turn on the Christmas lights at the big tree with Santa.

Then, Santa will nip around under the roof at the Saywell gazebo and take up his big chair, where he will be available to meet with the children and hear the wishes they will whisper into his ear.

Vendors will be on hand at Saywell Park gazebo selling their wares in a Christmas market from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Hot chocolate, oranges, candy canes and sugar cookies will also be provided by Country Grocer at the gazebo, and vendor tables will be provided by Cowichan Lake Recreation.

Volunteers are needed to help with traffic control and decorating. Call the Visitor Centre 250-749-3244 to let them know if you can help out.

The Chamber is always looking for sponsorship to help support events such as the parade. To become a sponsor for one of these events contact the Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce office at 250-749-3244 and ask about how you can be a sponsor.
