On Nov. 19, the Lake Cowichan RCMP joined forces with the 1st Lake Cowichan Scouts in raising $1,300 in cash donations, and collecting more than 700 pounds of food, during their ‘Stuff the Cruiser & Fill the Canoe’ event, for the Lake Cowichan Food Bank Society.

The event took place in front of the Lake Cowichan Country Grocer, where the Scouts and RCMP successfully stuffed a police cruiser, and a Scout canoe with donated food.

“The support here from residents in the Town of Lake Cowichan, and all the neighbouring communities, was absolutely amazing,” said Const. David Prak. “As the need for our local food bank continues to grow each year, so does the support from the community.”

The Lake Cowichan Food Bank Society recently announced a new location for its operations — St. Louis De Montfort Catholic Church on Fern Road. The location allows the group more storage capability. They’ll have to make room for 700 pounds more thanks to the Scouts and RCMP.

“A huge thank you to 1st Lake Cowichan Scouts, and the Lake Cowichan Country Grocer for helping make this event so successful. We couldn’t have done it without either of them,” Prak said.
