Proving that the long running service organization has a heart of gold, the Rotary Club of Duncan is launching their auction of the same name.
The online Heart of Gold Auction, which launched on Jan. 20, has more than 120 items, from gift cards for items ranging from unique art pieces to travel opportunities provided by B.C. Ferries. There are also gift cards for a myriad of experiences that include WildPlay Nanaimo, Butchart Gardens, and the Malahat SkyWalk.
“This major fundraiser will enable the club to support many local programs geared towards youth and the community," said club president Karen Thorington.
The Rotary Club of Duncan said they couldn't do it without the support of local businesses and individuals who have donated the items as all the proceeds from this auction will enable the club to support the following programs: The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which promotes literacy by providing free books to children up to age of five; The Pregnancy Food Connection program with the Margaret Moss Health Centre that contributes to the birth of healthy babies by providing nourishing food to pregnant women; the Clements Centre, which offers programs and services to children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities as well as to their families; and Rotary’s Student-of-the-Month program, which recognizes exceptional young people and their commitment to their school and community in School District 79.
The Rotary Club has also been a support for other community organizations such as Nourish Cowichan, Cowichan Valley Youth Services, Providence Farm, Cowichan Sportsplex, Cowichan Green Community, Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association, the Somenos Marsh Society, and Hospice House.
This Heart of Gold auction will run until Feb.15. The full catalogue of auction items can be viewed online at: charityauction.bid/heartofgold2025.
Once the online auction closes, the club will host a wine and cheese event at the Duncan Curling Club on Sherman Road on Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature an in-person live auction, giving attendees the opportunity to bid on unique "experience" items including a year of golf at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club, and even a sky high flight over the Cowichan Valley. Tickets for club's wine and cheese event are also available through the auction website.
