Eagle’s Rest Area, Scouts Canada, held its annual KubKar Rally and Scout Day at the Duncan Mall on April 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, and Venturer Sections were represented, along with Scouters from each of the sections.
The Baden Powell Guild, a division of Scouts Canada for Scouters that have retired from direct youth leadership but still want to assist in providing a quality program for youth, were also present.
The Beaver Scouts, aged five to seven, raced Beaver Buggies and worked on some crafts and games. The Cub Scouts, aged eight to 10 years, raced in 16 round robin races on four tracks. These races determined the 18 finalists, who competed in the B.P. Guild sponsored KubKar finals. Each of the finalists raced at least three times before the top three fastest KubKars were determined.
First place was awarded to a Cub Scout from 3rd Duncan Pack, second place went to a Cub Scout from 1st Quamichan LDS Pack, and third place went to a Cub Scout from 1st Bench Pack.
There was also a Show Kar competition for Cub Scouts who did not qualify for the racing finals. Three KubKars were chosen as winners in that category.
The Scout Section was represented by troops from 1st Cobble Hill, 3rd Quamichan and 1st Chemainus. They demonstrated lashing skills by building a 15 foot tower from poles, using rope lashing only for construction of the tower. They also lashed together tables and washing stands.
Eagle’s Rest Area, Scouts Canada, thank Duncan Mall for their generosity in letting the group hold the KubKar Rally and other activities at their site. The youth members also want to thank the 3rd B.P. Guild members for their very capable running of the KubKar Rally.
