The Nature Conservancy of Canada is inviting volunteers to come out for a day of hands-on habitat enhancement on Chase Woods Nature Preserve.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19 the conservation group is hosting a seed harvesting and planting event as part of the effort to recreate historic wetlands in the low-lying portion of the conservation area, at the base of Mount Tzouhalem.
Volunteers will help collect and scatter seeds from native vegetation, plant poplar trees and remove invasive non-native plants from the restoration area.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the radical restoration of our local wetlands,” said organizers.
Snacks and tools will be provided. This event is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 12 p.m. at the Chase Woods Nature Reserve (entrance on Khenipsen Road).
