The Cowichan Lake Arts and Culture Society (CLAC) wants to see what you did with your canvas!

What canvas?

Last year the CLAC contributed to art packages that the Chamber of Commerce gave out to families in the area. It’s time to show them off with a “Beat the Covid Blues!” art show in various locations in downtown Lake Cowichan.

“This opportunity is available to those who received the art packages and anyone else in the Cowichan Lake Area (Skutz Falls to Nitinat). You didn’t have to be a recipient of the Chamber’s art packages to enter,” said Kathie Fielding, president of the CLAC. “Everyone is welcome.”

There is no age limit, and no medium restrictions and no cost to participate. The only rule is that your work be on a 12 x 16 canvas board.

Those wanting to participate don’t have a lot of time.

Entries must be emailed to Fielding at: kathie@cowichanlakeartsandculture.org before Jan. 14. The digital files will then be used to assemble the show’s grouping and arrangements will be made to receive the actual product later in the month.

All art will be returned to the winners after the show.

“Let’s see what we can do to Beat the COVID Blues!” Fielding said.

In other news, the Cowichan Folk Guild is moving full steam ahead with their new season of music, with their next show featuring John Gogo in a live concert in the Chapel at Providence Farm.

Part of the Chapel Acoustic Series being presented by the Folk Guild, Gogo will hit the stage on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

If you haven’t heard of Gogo, here’s a hint:

“Folk singer, songwriter and actor John Gogo hails from a large musical family in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island,” describes a press release for th show. “John has carved out a niche for himself with his songs about the people, places and events of western Canada, the West Coast in particular. Several have themes of his family’s coal mining past and their history in logging, including his own.

“John starred in the touring productions Moodyville Tales, Good Timber - Songs & Stories of the Western Logger which he also wrote songs for, as well as his own one-man Coal & Wood Show.”

Gogo’s gig in Cowichan will include new songs that he plans to record for his next album.

Tickets are $20 for Folk Guild members, and $25 for non-members. To get them go to https://islandsfolk.tickit.ca/events/13822

COVID-19 passports and masks will be required to attend the show.

Some bad news this week for music-lovers who were planning to go to the Duncan Showroom to catch The Ranters on Jan. 29.

Due to increasing COVID-19 case counts the show has been postponed indefinitely.
