For the Record: The musical theatre category performances for the Cowichan Music Festival will be at Duncan United Church on Feb. 23. An incorrect date appeared in our last edition.
The Shawnigan Players have an ambitious programme on tap for their annual summer Shakespeare Festival with Hamlet and All’s Well That Ends Well.
Actors of all ages are invited to audition for roles. No experience or preparation is necessary.
Auditions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for All’s Well That Ends Well; Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 6:30 p.m, to 9:30 p.m. for both plays; and Saturday, Feb. 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for both plays.
All auditions will be held at the Clements Centre, 5856 Clements St., Duncan.
All’s Well That Ends Well will run outdoors from Aug. 10 to 20 at Gem O’ the Isle farm in Cowichan Station. Hamlet will run from Aug. 22 to 27 at an indoor venue to be announced.
Hamlet will be directed by Laura Faulkner and All’s Well That Ends Well will be directed by Alex Gallacher.

The Cowichan Valley Arts Council is holding back to back events on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
First up is an event that is sure to draw a crowd: an arts supplies swap and sale at the Cowichan Valley Arts Council Studio at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. poke through canvasses, unused art materials, free frames and more supplied by CVAC members.
Then, on Feb. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., learn the art of the critique and how to give and receive feedback on works.
Janine Duns and Roger Jackson will lead the session.
“A critique is a two-way process: the artist can make specific requests and the critics will offer feedback,” explains a press release for the event. “Artists can share their journeys when introducing a piece for critique. We will look at what questions to ask, what language to use and how to set up a safe space for sharing.”
Participants are also invited to bring an unfinished piece to discuss.
The cost for the session is $30 for members and $45 for non-members.

Riot Brewing has some more entertainment coming up.
On Saturday, March 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Lawson Kelly will bring “their signature mashup of alt-country, rock, and folk” to the stage.
“With soulful originals and thumping covers, they’ll have your toes tapping and your mind reeling, and vice versa,” said a press release for the show.
Then on Friday, March 10 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Copper Canyon Band brings their bluegrass, roots rock and classic country to the lounge.
“Come for the classics, stay for the multitalented and multifaceted musicians,” says a press release.
