After an extended break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chemainus Classical Concerts are back this weekend.

“After the hiatus of 2020-21, we are proceeding with cautious optimism, and planning to meet for small live concerts once more,” organizer Rykie Avenant said in a press release.

The first concert out of the gate is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Chemainus.

Titled Beauties and the Beast, it features Noel McRobbie on piano and Domagoj Ivanovic on violin. The Vancouver-based musicians both hold doctorates in Musical Arts, according Avenant, and are recipients of numerous awards and prizes. Ivanovic hails originally from Croatia, while McRobbie is from Manitoba.

Don’t wait to get your tickets, there are only 50 available. They are $30 each. To book and prepay, call Eleanor at 250-748-8383. Vaccine passports are required to enter the venue, and masks are mandatory.

The Chemainus Classical Concerts Society also has its Annual General Meeting coming up following the second concert in the series on Nov. 14.
