Chemainus Classical Concerts has a real musical treat coming up Sunday, March 10 starting at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Chemainus.

Swedish-American pianist Elias-Axel Pettersson is coming to the historic church with a program that explores musical fantasy and imagination (Mozart and Ravel), illustrates the poignancy of memories (Schubert) and engulfs the listener in a surge of colossal power (Franck.)

Whew! No wonder the program is entitled Fantasy and Reminiscence. Listeners may feel the need to check their passports after this show.

Hailed for his “breathtaking virtuosity and an intelligent sense of precisely what brings music to life” (Albuquerque Journal) and his “rhythmic integrity, singing tone quality, and refinement” (Clavier), Pettersson has established himself as a formidable soloist and chamber musician.

Holding a doctorate from the Université de Montréal, this talented performer has been designated a Mason and Hamlin Concert Artist, and has garnered prizes on the national and international level. For ticket information, please visit www.ChemainusClassicalConcerts.ca or phone Eleanor at 250-748-8383 to reserve your seat in advance.

The cost is $18 in advance or $25 at the door. It’s only $10 for students under 18 so bring them along, too.
