The Cowichan Folk Guild is bringing in two talented musicians for a concert at Providence Farm Chapel on Saturday, March 26.

The show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., features Chris Ronald and John MacArthur Ellis. Attendees can expect folk, roots and Americana to be on the menu when the men hit the stage.

Ronald came to Canada from England in 2002, and has since made a name for himself as a singer-songwriter in contemporary folk music.

“Ronald’s stand-out signature sound is steeped in his British background, poetic lyrics, and a buttery fusion of Roots and Americana music,” says a press release for the show.

Ronald paired with MacArthur Ellis, who is a multi-instrumentalist, to produce his first full studio recording.

“The resulting Timeline (2014) album catapulted Ronald to a new level in his career with, among other accolades, a nomination for Songwriter of the Year at the 2014 Canadian Folk Music Awards,” says the release.

Albums Fragments and Light & Dark followed in 2017 and 2021 respectively, under folk label Borealis Records.

MacArthur Ellis is described as both a producer and multi-instrumentalist who is “known for capturing the hottest sounds in the Americana, alt country, folk, singer/songwriter and roots rock genres.”

Music he’s produced has made the top 10 on the Canadian music charts, and appeared in television shows including Breaking Bad and Da Vinci’s Inquest.

Tickets for the show are $20 for Folk Guild members, and $25 for non-members. Get them from https://islandsfolk.tickit.ca/events/13517 and at the door. Seating is limited.
