Cowichan Music Festival awards handed out

The festival included 735 performances by 1,589 participants

The Cowichan Music Festival wrapped up with a well-attended Highlights Concert at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan on Monday, March 6.

The festival included 735 performances by 1,589 participants aged three to 80-plus.

Awards were handed out and announcements were made about who has been chosen to represent Cowichan at the provincial festival.

The following are the representatives, alternates and merited participants chosen by the adjudicators:

Dance

Stage Dance I - Madison Steen, Alternate Yasmin Foo; Stage Dance II – Kaiya Boudreau; Stage Dance III – Christina Noon, Alternate Lily Killam; Modern I – Aubrey Hunter, Alternate Sage Tousaw; Modern II – Satya Foo; Modern III – Marley Boehmer, Alternate Maya Campbell; and Ballet III – Athena Wise.

Merited Participants in Dance are Reese Richter, Jillian Telfer, and Lia Martinez Shaw.

Classical voice

Junior Classical Voice – Zebastin Borjeau, Alternate Rowan Picard; and Intermediate Classical Voice – Agata Minka, Alternate Shaylee Martin.

Musical theatre

Junior Musical Theatre – Julian LaPointe; Intermediate Musical Theatre – Caidence Burns; and Senior Musical Theatre – Nima Foell, Alternate Kali Fraser.

Instruments

Intermediate Strings – Mimi Dryland.

Piano

Junior A piano – Ashley Pepper is a Merited Participant.
