Get your tickets now for the return of opera star Gary Relyea, who performs Haydn at Duncan’s Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, May 6 starting at 7:30 p.m.

He joins the Cowichan Consort Orchestra &Choir in the famous oratorio, The Creation.

It’s a truly monumental work and features Relyea’s wonderful bass-baritone voice along with those of soprano Jennifer Turner, and Nathan McDonald, who will sing the role of Adam.

Ted Rhodes, Duncan’s busy tenor soloist, will sing the role of Uriel. Robert Mari conducts the orchestra.

Audiences also will love hearing the chorus, ‘The Heavens are Telling’, among the many joyous selections in this major work by Haydn.

The composer, a prolific writer of symphonies and string quartets, became known as “Papa” Haydn, because, not only was he the mentor of Mozart and Beethoven, but he was the father of symphonic music.

Instead of penning fewer than a dozen of the great works, like many other composers, he composed 104 symphonies.

But, he’s also known for his choral compostions, like The Creation.

Get your tickets at Volume One Bookstore in Duncan or from members.

Adults pay $15, while students 17 and under get in for $10.

According to the Cowichan Consort, the last two times Relyea, an opera star across Canada, sang in the Valley, both concerts were sold out. Tickets will also be available at the door.
