The Cowichan Valley Garden Club will be the featured temporary exhibit for the month of September at the Cowichan Valley Museum in Duncan.
Their exhibition theme, “The Growing Years”, will depict the local garden club’s roots in Canada-wide garden movements since confederation — gardening for necessity by pioneers, gardening for scientific benefits (physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, and psychological) and gardening for social reforms (campaigns to beautify cities, railway stations and public buildings).
Founded in 1953, the Cowichan Valley Garden Club encourages interest in gardening and shares discussion, information and knowledge about gardening. It also promotes the enjoyment of gardening activities of an amateur nature. This year members have been participating in a “grow a row” project: 100 pounds of home grown produce for the Cowichan Valley Basket Society.
Annually, the club holds a spring flower show, a spring plant sale, and oversees the Flower Division and Vegetables Division competitions at the Cowichan Exhibition.
Highlighting the club’s 69 years of activities in the Cowichan Valley community, this is one exhibition not to be missed!
The Cowichan Valley Museum is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum hours may change mid-September so check the home page of the museum www.cowichanvalleymuseum.bc.ca/. Admission is by donation. All community residents and visitors are welcome.
The museum is located in the former federally heritage-designated 1912 Duncan Train Station at 130 Canada Ave.
