The Ladysmith Gallery is currently featuring a dynamic exhibit of local talent with a focus on the media of sculpture and photography. The show runs until Feb. 19 and showcases the work of artists from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands including Christopher Bone, Cathy Lombard, Sally Mann, Nancy Morgantini, Joel Prevost, Bruce Whittington and many others.
The 3D sculptural works on display were created with a diversity of materials including ceramic, steel, wood and granite. The photographs in the exhibit vary in style and technique, with some shot digitally and others on film, printed on paper and framed under glass. Visitors to the gallery can enjoy the blends of warm and cool tones, soft and hard textures, and heavy and lightweight forms.
Without a set theme, participating artists have created work inspired by “imagination, personal stories, traditions, wildlife, and travel, offering visitors a unique experience of abstract representation and realism,” said a press release from the Ladysmith Gallery.
The gallery welcomes visitors to engage with local creativity and gain insight into the stories behind the art by viewing the exhibit on display until Feb. 19. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 32 High St. in downtown Ladysmith.
