Ticket holders for Laketown Shakedown and Sunfest can expect formal announcements about the 2020 editions of the music festivals “in the near future,” organizers promise.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced last Saturday (April 18) that the ban on large-scale events in B.C. will continue through the end of the summer, which will impact both Laketown Shakedown (scheduled for June 26-28) and Sunfest (July 30-Aug. 2).
Organizers have been keeping in contact on a daily basis with other festivals, the federal, provincial and local governments, and Island Health, so they haven’t been caught by surprise. But there’s a lot to do before anything can be finalized.
“We are dealing with so many moving parts,” said Greg Adams, founder of both events and owner of the Laketown Ranch venue on Wednesday, April 22. “There’s a lot of communication. Hopefully next week we will have the final details for the festival and the final options for ticketing.”
Posts with similar wording went up on both events’ Facebook pages on April 18, thanking ticket holders for being patient during an unprecedented situation.
Adams had been optimistic that the events could be rescheduled for later this year, especially since the festivals and venue are owned by the same people, which provides flexibility that other events don’t have.
The Laketown Shakedown was to feature the Wu-Tang Clan, Ludacris, Third Eye Blind and Nelly, while Keith Urban, Jon Pardi and Dallas Smith were set to headline Sunfest.
