VIDEO: Trombonist brings 14-piece band to Crofton

Nick La Riviere is back in Crofton and he’s bringing a 14-piece band with him this time.

Nick La Riviere, arguably Victoria’s hottest trombonist, brings his 14-piece community band Soul Source to Crofton on Sunday, June 11 for some hard-driving classic R&B at the Crofton Hotel Pub’s jazz series.

La Riviere, who, according to publicist, Ron Joiner, “performs somewhere almost every day” and frequently tours across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, plays regularly with the international touring band The Paperboys and performs with many other bands including Michael Kaeshammer, Pretzel Logic and the Timebenders.

The band he’s bringing, which includes three vocalists, saxes, trumpet and a five-piece rhythm section as well as La Riviere’s trombone, has been rehearsing under the trombonist for weeks in anticipation of this performance on the Crofton Hotel Pub stage. Musicians are invited to sit in during a jam session in the final hour of the afternoon.

The jazz series runs every Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the pub, 1534 Joan Ave. in Crofton. Admission is $15. It’s a small venue and these shows are popular. Get there early.
