Kick off the month with a bluesy twist on the season at Big Hank’s Tribute to the Blues Songs of Christmas with Smoking Hot Toasters. On Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Big Hank Lionhart and his band deliver a concert featuring blues-infused Yuletide classics from legends like Big Joe Turner, B.B. King, and Etta James. On Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., saxophonist Wayne Kozak takes the stage for an afternoon of jazz explorations as part of their popular Sunday Jazz series. Don’t miss the hottest blues jam on Vancouver Island. Hosted by the Thor Jonsson Band, the Dec. 19 edition of Boogie By The Bay Blues Jam invites talented musicians and music lovers alike to play and dance the night away. The jam kicks off at 7 p.m. with a $10 cover charge. Jammers get in free.
Later in the month, discover Cowichan Valley’s newest folk-pop sensation Firebird on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. This trio of award-winning singer-songwriters combines Irish, bluegrass and pop music to create a fusion folk that is full of fire and redemption. Why not spend Christmas Eve with Lust Life? One of Victoria’s hardest-swinging jazz bands, led by trumpeter and vocalist Bryn Badel, the group returns after a long hiatus with their eclectic mix of jazz standards, blues and Latin rhythms. The show starts at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24, with tickets available for $20 at the door.
End the year in style at the New Year’s Eve Bash! Featuring a three-course dinner and live performance by Thick As Thieves on Dec. 31, guests can celebrate the arrival of 2025 with decadent dining, live music and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.
