Johanne Kemmler running for vacant seat on North Cowichan council

Kemmler is a former trustee in the Cowichan Valley school district

Johanne Kemmler, a former trustee for the Cowichan Valley School District, said she has lived in the Cowichan Valley for more than 50 years and has dedicated much of her time to serving the community.

With 25 years as an elementary school secretary and a strong background in union leadership, she said she has spent her career advocating for people and making sure their voices are heard.

“I have served as a school trustee for four years where I gained valuable experience in governance and decision-making,” Kemmler said.

"Currently, I coordinate the Cowichan Valley Community Action Team tackling the opioid crisis and supporting our most vulnerable residents. I would work to ensure that our community grows in a way that is both sustainable and inclusive, balancing economic development with the necessary supports for those who need them most.”

Kemmler said she supports North Cowichan’s official community plan and the Safer Community Plan because a strong community is one where both businesses and people can thrive.

“I have a personal stake in our community’s future,” she said. “My husband and I raised our children here, and now our grandchildren are growing up in this community.”
