A 47-year old man has been charged with robbery after attempting to steal a purse from a senior citizen in Duncan.
On March 14, just before 5 p.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called to the intersection of Canada Avenue and Station Street after receiving a report that a man attempted to steal an elderly woman’s purse.
As police arrived on scene, they located the suspect, who was being restrained by bystanders in order to prevent him from fleeing.
The suspect was then arrested and transported to North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment where he was held for court.
The victim, who was also being assisted by bystanders, was treated at the scene by BC Emergency Health Service paramedics for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
"Of particular note is the bravery of community members who came together to ensure the safety of a senior citizen," said S/Sgt Ken Beard, detachment commander for North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
The suspect remains in custody.
The police investigation has determined that this is an isolated incident.
