People have been having fun making joke suggestions for names for the three new vessels that BC Ferries is adding to its fleet in the coming year, but if you want to seriously try your hand at naming the new ferries the contest is still open.
There are a number of criteria that the winning names will have to abide by.
The first part of the name refers to the class of vessel, such as "Coastal" while the second part of the name is descriptive, such as "Celebration", "Inspiration" and "Renaissance." This naming contest will be to create a name for the class of vessel and a descriptive name for each of the three new ferries.
Submissions must also reflect BC Ferries and the coastal communities it serves; appeal to both residents and visitors; be gender neutral; not be geography specific or reference an individual or event; no contain symbols or accent marks; not contain words currently used within a name of an existing BC Ferries vessel.
