Walk of the Nations setting out Saturday

Social Planning Cowichan, Hiiye'yu Lelum House of Friendship and Cowichan Intercultural Society are hosting the 7th Annual Walk of the Nations on May 30 in Duncan.

The Walk of the Nations was born from the 2008 North American Indigenous Games and is a celebration of culture and diversity.

"Our community has a rich culture," explained committee member Michelle Staples. "We hope Walk of the Nations. the walk will create a community filled with understanding, acceptance, respect and compassion." Nearly 1,000 people attended the 2014 Walk of the Nations and organizers hope that this year's walk will be even bigger. Everyone is invited to attend and traditional and cultural clothing is encouraged.

The walk starts at 10 a.m. at VIU and will conclude with food and music at Centennial Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. "Everyone is invited to join us in celebrating the diversity of our community," said organizers.
