Mercury Players hold auditions for staged reading of 'Timepiece'

Auditions to take place in the reception centre of the Sands Funeral Chapel in Duncan

For local actors looking to get more involved in community theatre, the time to hesitate is through as the Mercury Players hold auditions for their third staged reading of the season with Kico Gonzales-Risso's Timepiece.

Timepiece tells the story of retired watchmaker Walter, who is becoming forgetful, or perhaps he is just being capricious.

His wife Doris wants to downsize, while Walter does not. Their adult children Patrick who is a lawyer, and Karla, who is a music therapist, have a lot of advice for mom and dad — when they are not arguing with one another. Timepiece takes a funny, poignant and respectful look at aging, marriage and family dynamics.

Staged readings are intended to encourage up-and-coming directors and actors, along with experienced ones. No stage, no special effects; just basic storytelling through energetic rehearsed readings. Auditions for the cast of four will be held In the reception centre of the Sands Funeral Chapel in Duncan on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.

There will be three set rehearsals on Feb. 7, 12, and 19 all beginning at 7 p.m., and the one-time staged reading will be performed on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.

For those who are interested in auditioning email Louise at louise.phillips@mercuryplayers.org.
