Supporting small businesses is not just about commerce; it’s about community, and that was the feeling being expressed on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the open house held at the Chamber of Commerce office on Roberts Street.
The event was not just to mark Chamber of Commerce Week in B.C. but was also the 95th anniversary of the local Chamber.
The event was an open door and over the afternoon was attended by more than 100 people.
Chamber President Cheri Mactier thanked all those attended and thanked the staff of the Chamber for the efforts they put in supporting not just the Chamber but also the local Tourist Info Centre.
“The work they do helps to promote the finer aspects of our community and is drawing rewards," she said. "The present executive have also been very instrumental in the advances we have made, this year, and we all look forward to further good news in our new year.”
The five mayoralty candidates were also present and were invited to say a few words. The candidates stayed and gave individuals an opportunity to have their questions answered.
Member of Parliament Lisa Marie Barron, was also on hand and she not only congratulated the Chamber on its anniversary and many successes but also thanked the board and staff for the work the Chamber has shared with her and her staff on a variety of initiatives.
The attendees were treated to birthday cake and refreshments.
