Duncan movie theatre making a comeback

Hiring has already begun for the downtown movie theatre that will be taking on the new name Duncan Cinemas

Movie buffs can rejoice as the Caprice movie theatre in Duncan will soon be making a comeback under the new name Duncan Cinemas.

The letters that spelled out "closed" came down from the marquee board last week, and hiring platforms such as Indeed are already advertising for staffing positions for the theatre that closed its doors on Dec. 30, 2023, leaving film fanatics no choice but to flee to Nanaimo or Victoria to get their buttery theatre popcorn and big screen movie needs met.

The theatre, located at 404 Duncan St., was originally built in the 1980s. It was recently taken over Golin Cinemas Inc., which also owns the Capitol 6 in Victoria.

Citizen staff has reached out to the new owners to find out more information, including the new official opening date, but with hiring already in the works hope among the movie-going community is that it will be soon. More updates to follow.
