Ladysmith coffee shop In the Beantime announces new location

The popular eatery will share space with Plantitude

Ladysmith’s In the Beantime is relocating to a new home. The popular eatery will move to 431 First Ave., where it will share space with Plantitude – Kind Food.

In the Beantime shared the news on their Facebook page Dec. 4, saying that the two establishments “look forward to working together to create a unique collaboration for your dining experience.”

Plantitude is known for its house-made, plant-based meals and gluten-free options, while In the Beantime is celebrated for its coffee, homemade sandwiches, wraps, soups and baked goods.

“We are quite relieved and happy to have found a location in Ladysmith,” In the Beantime owner Cam McIntyre said. “We had expanded our search to the Nanaimo and Duncan areas due to a lack of suitable options in Ladysmith. We’ve been part of this community for over 18 years and did not want to leave. The support from Ladysmith has been incredible and this is our true home.”

No reopening date has been announced, but In the Beantime owners Cam and Kristy McIntyre said they hope it will be soon.

“Many things need to happen before we open,” McIntyre said. “Aside from moving everything we need into the new space, we need to find storage for our excess equipment, get everything organized properly, set up our espresso machine, till and ordering system at the new location, figure out the logistics of running two businesses concurrently, reorganize our storage systems, figure out how we assimilate into a shared kitchen space and many more things.”

To hold regular customers over until the reopening, orders for “take-and-bake” meals can be placed by emailing cam@beantime.ca. Deliveries to the Ladysmith area will be made daily.

In the Beantime’s previous location, at 18 High St., closed on Nov. 30 after the building was sold, leaving the café's future uncertain.

The recent announcement has been met with relief and excitement by followers online.
