Clean sheet from Achurch extends Cowichan 49ers' league lead

Div I

Cowichan Axis FC beat Sooke 4-1 on the road on Nov. 29 after having a last-minute field change due to rain. Rookie sensation Maddox Moon scored a brace and the other Cowichan goals were slotted by Terrell Price and Jacob Ready.

Selects

The Cowichan Selects played in Comox on Nov. 30 and were shut out 3-0.

Cowichan plays host to Vic West FC on Dec. 8 at the Sherman Road turf. Kickoff is noon.

Masters

The Cowichan Steelheads picked up a 2-0 victory over Lakehill FC at Braefoot Park on Nov. 30. Mike Kennefick slotted both Cowichan goals while the Masters C league-leading Steelheads' goalie Jesse Davis earned his fifth clean sheet of the campaign.

Cowichan welcomes Saltspring O35s to the Sherman Road turf on Dec. 7 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Meanwhile, with a 4-0 shutout over Prospect Lake this past weekend, the league-leading Cowichan 49ers have opened up an 11-point gap between themselves and the second-ranked team. Darian Achurch notched his fifth shutout in 10 games. Wesley Barrett led the way in scoring, notching a hat-trick while Gjoa Carr added a single in the decisive victory.

After a week off, the 49ers will travel to play Bays United on Dec. 14.

O30 Women

The Cowichan Cougars welcomed the Prospect Lake Lakers to the Sherman Road turf on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Jenelle Leedam scored Cowichan's lone goal in a 4-1 home loss at the Sherman Road turf.

The Cougars travel to PISE on Dec. 6 to face the No. 2-ranked Castaways United for a 7:30 p.m. match.

Div. III

Cowichan Oak FC met Lakehill on the road on Dec. 1 and stole three points in the standings with a 4-1 win.

Shane Brown opened the scoring for Cowichan but the next two goals belonged to Alexander Smith. Lakehill got one back early in the second half but Cole Lawrence scored for Oak to maintain the three-goal lead and the three points going away.

Oak FC plays host to Bays United FC on Dec. 7 in what should be a relatively evenly matched contest, as the two teams are seventh and sixth in the standings respectively. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at the Sherman Road turf.

Div. III Women

The Cowichan Storm played their second-straight at home on Nov. 30 when Bays United came to town and gave their fans a show, beating the visiting team 2-1. Team goal-scoring leader Erin Greeves got Cowichan off to a 1-0 lead just 12 minutes in and though Bays equalized in the 68th minute, Poppy White pulled her team ahead with a goal in the 85th minutes to give the Storm the win.

The No. 4-ranked Storm visit No. 7 CFC Calypso at PISE on Dec. 7.

Div. V

In search of their second win in a row and sixth of the year, Cowichan FC visited JDF United on Nov. 29 and after being down 2-1 at the half, dominated the remainder of the game to finish with a 5-2 win. Cole Erickson maintained his stellar scoring pace with two and Mikael Seymour, Man of the Match Blair Proctor, and Tristan Price also scored.

The Div. 5 squad plays host to FC Sagres on Dec. 6 at the Sherman Road turf. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
