Peewee Cowichan Bulldogs remain undefeated

Junior Bantam squad also wins

Easter weekend action in the VICFA included just two games for Cowichan Valley Football Association teams as the Atom Bulldogs had a bye this past weekend and will suit up against Saanich on April 26 at Copley Park.

Peewee

The Peewee Bulldogs played host to Oceanside on Saturday, April 19 at McAdam Park and came away with a 36-14 victory.

Rylen Heyer led the offence with three rushing touchdowns. Heyer also completed two touchdown passes — one to Felix Bernardi and the other to Damian Montoya.

On the other side of the ball, the defensive line played well with Jace Woodworth leading the way in tackles. Dawson Sherman had the day's lone quarterback sack.

"Line backers Rylend 'Blondi' Monti and Liam Freeland were involved in most every tackle," said head coach Justin Young, who lauded the efforts of his players.

"Being three home games in and having won all three is an outstanding start to our season," he said. "I am excited to see our players continue to push themselves to greater heights."

Junior Bantam

The JB Bulldogs welcomed Oceanside to McAdam Park on Saturday, April 19 in the second game of the day. The JB squad came away with a 14-10 victory. Eli Atchison scored Cowichan's first touchdown. Justin Jack-Thomas scooped up a fumble and recovered it for the Bulldogs' second touchdown of the day.

"It was a nail-biter," said head coach Opie Williams, adding that it was a defensive gem.

"Our defence played so strong," he added noting the team's defensive motto is: "Bend don't break".

Junior Thomas got Player of the Game for making a huge tackle on the goal line and causing a fumble which we recovered," he added. "Justin had made a huge tackle when they were pressing on the goal line earlier."

Oaklan Bourelle also had an interception on the goal line to preserve the score.
