Duncan Christian School and Queen Margaret's School senior girls basketball teams met in the first round of the 2025 Vancouver Island School Sports 'A' Islands Championship on Feb. 10 in Victoria.
DCS had advanced to the Island tournament by winning the 'A' North Island Basketball Championships on Feb. 7. QMS placed fourth to advance to the finals.
It wasn't DCS but QMS who took the victory, ousting the North Island champs by a 78-60 score.
DCS went on to play St. Andrews for a chance to play for fourth and fifth place but St. Andrews got the best of DCS, and the Duncan-based school was forced to play Cedar for seventh and eighth place instead. The Chargers beat Cedar 67-30 to finish the tournament at seventh overall.
QMS, meanwhile, met Ucluelet in the second round on Tuesday morning but fell 68-49 to drop down to play for third and fifth place. A 79-38 loss left QMS at fifth overall.
Pacific Christian School beat Ucluelet 84-36 in the final.
Brentwood College School and Ladysmith Secondary were slated to take part in the AA Islands this past weekend but due to the Family Day holiday, the results weren't available before the Citizen's press time.
In junior girls basketball action, QMS played to a dominant 55-12 victory over Shawnigan Lake School on Feb. 6 to claim the Central Vancouver Island Junior Girls B Championship.
