As a community-driven local business, The Old Farm Market has never been one to shy away from opportunities to support their local community. This dedication to making a difference where and when they can was a driving force behind a recent fundraising campaign for The Courtnall Society for Mental Health.
A variety of summer events, including a pop-up local produce stand at the Rifflandia Music Festival and a hockey slapshot event with retired NHL players and local kids, raised more than $37,000
"We're incredibly proud of our team and their commitment to this initiative," says Chris Steel, general manager of Old Farm Market in Duncan. "Their hard work, dedication and passion made it possible to raise $37,600 for the Courtnall Society and their efforts to improve access to mental health support across Canada."
Established by brothers Geoff, Russ and Bruce Courtnall in 2021, the Courtnall Society's roots reach back to 2003's inaugural Courtnall Celebrity Classic in Victoria, a star-studded event that raised critical funds for mental health support.
In 2005, the Archie Courtnall Centre opened at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital, named in honour of their father, Archie Courtnall, who tragically lost his battle with depression in 1978. Since then, the centre has supported more than 60,000 patients.
In 2021, the organization rebranded as the Courtnall Society, expanding its mission to fund grants year-round for community-based mental health programs across Canada. To date, the society has raised more than $3 million, significantly advancing mental health initiatives nationwide.
“Mental health is something we hold close to our hearts,” says Old Farm Market CEO Lorne Campbell. “As a team, we regularly discuss its importance and are committed to finding new ways to support mental health in our community.
"At the same time, we’re passionate about supporting local farmers and providing affordable, locally sourced products. Partnering with a remarkable non-profit like the Courtnall Society – founded right here in Victoria – perfectly aligns with our values as a locally owned business.”
