John Koury is running for a seat on North Cowichan council.

I served on North Cowichan council for two terms, I had 100 per cent attendance last term and I was always prepared for meetings. I believe in a balanced approach to community development to ensure our needs are met today and for future generations.

We need more growth and sustainable development to fix old problems, provide opportunity for families and young people with jobs, skills training and education. A strong private sector economy will help us expand community services and attract more services to take care of our seniors, too.

I will urge council to consider funding from related reserves: 1) capped Homeowners Grant Bylaw for new homes and renovations up to $1,500; 2) Festival Foster Fund Bylaw to assist operating costs of established music festivals; 3) Public Health Crisis Action Plan Bylaw to deal with homeless addicted and mentally ill people and bring heavy pressure down on the killer drug dealers.

I will urge council to unleash the power of the audit committee, establish accountability measures, reporting thresholds and ways and means make our assets work harder for everyone.

I urge you to vote NO to referenda that will change North Cowichan forever. CVRD want our land assets for free and then tax you forever after to create two big bureaucracies for illegitimate water protection and social housing.

North Cowichan waterworks systems and public works staff are excellent, the finest in B.C. There is no water “crisis” in North Cowichan.

The CVRD has a horrible water record with many problems that we should not pay for.

North Cowichan politicians created the affordable housing crisis. Cowichan builders, the skilled trades and our civil servants can fix it really fast.

We need to change the politicians first and restore balance to local governance. Please visit facebook @JohnKouryMBA or johnkoury.ca, thank you.
